James “Doc” Mason is not a proper doctor, nor does he play one on TV. The nickname was bestowed upon him in college, as he was quick to collaborate on his fellow student’s scripts.

Doc is the father of four, but they call him Pops. He has worked as an advertising executive for over two decades for the regular paycheck and health insurance. From this, he knows the value of a well-defined, repeatable, step-by-step process.

Doc leads a writers' group in Santa Monica whose main purpose is to lose its member to the professional ranks.

He is also an administrator of the Loglines Facebook group where, for many years, he has offered members individual training and feedback in the art or writing loglines.

Screenwriting as a Collaborative Art Form
He has written or co-written countless shorts and 15 feature scripts, several of which were optioned or produced, including the feature thriller, Caged (2021; Dir: Aaron Fjellman, starring Edi Gathegi, Melora Hardin, Angela Sarafyan), and the award winning action short Yae: Blind Samurai Woman (2022; Dir. Akiko Izumitani).
